General Surgeon Opportunity

Worthington Specialty Clinics/Avera Health is seeking a board certified or board eligible general surgeon physician to replace a current general surgeon who will be retiring.  Worthington is a community of 10,000 located in Southwest Minnesota just 1 hour from Sioux Falls, SD and 3 hours from Minneapolis.  The Clinic is part of the Avera Health network, a regional family of more than 100 healthcare facilities in the five-state region of Minnesota, South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska and North Dakota.  Avera McKennan Hospital and University Health Center located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota is the regional referral center for Worthington Specialty Clinics.

Worthington Specialty Clinics / Avera Health is a primary care group practice with 15 physicians in five specialties. The current medical staff includes 6 internists, 2 family practice physicians, 3 pediatricians, 2 OB/GYN physicians and a certified nurse midwife, 2 general surgeons, a clinical psychologist and a Physician Assistant. All physicians are board certified or board eligible. The clinic is located adjacent to the hospital and is connected by an underground tunnel. The clinic has its own laboratory, x-ray, mammography, ultrasound, mammotome, nerve conduction study, nuclear medicine camera, pulmonary function and cardiovascular stress testing equipment.  Check out our website at:  www.worthingtonspecialtyclinics.org 

Worthington Regional Hospital is a fully accredited municipal facility with 66 acute care beds. The hospital provides a full range of inpatient and outpatient services including comprehensive diagnostic imaging, CT scanning, MRI, ultrasound, a full service laboratory, home health care and inpatient mental health treatment. The hospital has 4 operating rooms that were renovated in 1992. The emergency room is staffed 24 hours a day with qualified emergency medicine physicians. The community also has two nursing homes that provide 150 long-term beds.

Education: Worthington offers a Catholic K-6 school and a Christian school in addition to the public schools; one elementary, one junior high, one senior high and a community and technical college.

Recreation: This lovely community is built around a 785-acre lake and offers all water sports: boating, water skiing, wind surfing and fishing. The city has more than 20 parks, an outdoor pool with water slide, softball fields and tennis courts.
