A full-service hospital
Healthcare professionals seeking a hospital providing advanced care with compassion need look no further than Owensboro Medical Health System (OMHS). Nestled in the center of Kentucky's third largest city, OMHS provides care to patients in an eleven-county area in Western Kentucky and Southern Indiana with a mission to heal the sick and to improve the health of the community.

More than 200 physicians practicing three-dozen specialties serve on the hospital's medical staff. The number of employees exceeds 2,400, making OMHS one of the largest employers in Western Kentucky. The hospital is licensed for 447 beds.

Mitchell Memorial Cancer Center
In July 2005, OMHS opened the Mitchell Memorial Cancer Center, a $9.4 million freestanding state-of-the-art-facility housing all outpatient cancer services; cancer specialists are located together to more effectively design and coordinate treatment programs.

The cancer center is designed with a warm, homelike atmosphere, wrapped around the latest breakthroughs in research and medical technology. The On-board Imager by Varian is used to provide image-guided radiation therapy for patients. In March 2006, OMHS will introduce MammoSite breast treatment.

On the second floor, the cancer center contains an 8,000 square-foot space set aside for cancer research slated to open in 2006, operated by the University of Louisville's James Graham Brown Cancer Center.

OMHS Heart Center - A partnership with Jewish Hospital
OMHS partners with Louisville's Jewish Hospital, world-renowned for cardiovascular services. The OMHS Heart Center partnership provides area residents with access to advance heart care, including the latest technology, proven methods and research all customized for Owensboro by Jewish Hospital.

Heart surgeons use the beating heart procedure. The hospital's cath lab is equipped with a new radio frequency controlled device that enables cardiologists to place stents into 100 percent blocked arteries, providing more patients with less invasive treatment for heart disease. OMHS also offers patients with Atrial Fibrillation a non-invasive surgical treatment option that uses microwave energy.

In 2006 OMHS is making more advancements with additional heart care services. Initiatives include added specialization in women's heart services, establishing an accredited chest pain center and finalizing a partnership for clinical research trials through the Jewish Hospital Center for Advanced Medicine.

About Owensboro

On the edge of the Ohio River, Owensboro is approximately a two-hour drive from Nashville or Louisville. The city is home to Brescia University and Kentucky Wesleyan College, two private liberal arts institutions along with Owensboro Community and Technical College and an extended campus from Western Kentucky University.

Best about Owensboro is it's small town feel with larger city amenities. Owensboro abounds with culture, including RiverPark Center, a multipurpose civic auditorium hosting over 1,000 performances and events each year. The city's 5,500-seat Sportscenter is home to the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers, a championship NCAA Division II men's basketball team.

The community also offers the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art, Daviess County Public Library, the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra, the Owensboro Dance Theatre and the International Bluegrass Music Museum.

Owensboro has multiple parks, golf courses, playgrounds, swimming pools, ball diamonds and nature trails. A greenbelt trail surrounding the city is designed explicitly for biking and walking. The OMHS HealthPark - a medically based fitness center, is offered at a discounted rate to all employees.
