 Consider this opportunity to practice psychiatry in beautiful Saratoga Springs, NY. 

Saratoga Hospital seeks a BE/BC, NYS licensed psychiatrist to provide care as part of a close-knit multi-disciplinary care team on a 16-bed adult inpatient unit. This position is a full time salaried, hospital-sponsored career opportunity when combined with an outpatient position at the attached Saratoga County Mental Health Center. 

The split for each job is almost 50/50 inpatient and outpatient, with more emphasis on the hospital inpatient responsibilities. Call is 1:6, shared with the unit Director and County Mental Health physicians. The call pool may grow with the planned addition of physicians at the County Mental Health Center.  Interest in ECT is preferred to provide backup. Compensation for this position is competitive.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a qualified, energetic, personable physician. Saratoga Hospital’s psychiatry staff currently consists of the Director, Walter Niedzwiadek, MD, who earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Albany Medical Center and completed his psychiatry residency at Albany Medical Center Hospital. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Inc. Physicians who serve the Saratoga County Mental Health Center and share call with hospital-employed psychiatrists include: Edmond Amyot, MD; Ivan Engel, MD; Robert Harnick, MD (Child Psychiatrist); and Gary Oberg, MD.

SARATOGA HOSPITAL: Growing to Meet Community Need
 

Saratoga Hospital is a 171-bed community hospital with an attached 72-bed skilled nursing facility. The hospital offers a complete range of inpatient and outpatient care. The hospital received the highest rating on the last Joint Commission of Accredited Hospitals Organization (JCAHO) survey. The hospital is experiencing overall growth to meet the needs of the community and is in the process of major renovation and expansion. At Saratoga Hospital, nurses have been recognized as being among the best in the nation – ranked in the top 2% of all US hospitals, according to the American Nurses Credentialing Center by achieving Magnet designation, Nursing’s top honor.

Construction of a cardiac catheterization laboratory offering diagnostic cardiac catheterizations and peripheral vascular interventions was completed in 2001. Since then, the Saratoga Surgery Center offering ambulatory surgery was constructed. The Mollie Wilmot Radiation Oncology Center offering state-of-the-art technology, including IMRT, opened in Summer 2005.

The hospital plans a major expansion of the Emergency Department, almost tripling its current capacity and will include: 6-bed dedicated psychiatry evaluation area designed for non-injury but equipped with medical gases and resuscitation equipment. It will include enclosed nursing unit behind glass partition with adjacent security department location. Mental health assessments are performed by dedicated Emergency Department Psychiatric nurses and social workers.               

The hospital offers state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging services with spiral CT, a full service laboratory, and the Regional Therapy Center offering PT and OT.

Reaching Out

Wilton Medical Arts, an ambulatory care center located approximately four miles from the hospital, offers services including medical imaging (1.5 tesla MRI short bore magnet;  a breast health center complete with a resource nurse, breast MRI and biopsy capabilities on site;  CT, PET/CT imaging, DEXA, ultrasound, and x-ray); and in addition, Laboratory Services, Corporate Health Services, Urgent Care, Regional Therapy Center satellite, and a Hearing Shop. A large primary care center will open at Wilton Medical Arts Spring 2008. The Saratoga Surgery Center opened in 2004 offering ambulatory surgery, with five operating rooms, two GI suites and a minor surgery room, adjacent to Wilton Medical Arts. Malta Medical Arts opened in April 2007 and offers medical imaging (MRI, CT, US and x-ray); Urgent Care and Laboratory Services.

In August 2007, the hospital signed an agreement to purchase a vacated 140-acre horse farm approximately 12 miles south of Saratoga Springs in Malta and has submitted plans for approval by the Town for a Planned Development District (PDD) to build a medical park. Many services are under consideration for the property including medical office buildings, a new hospital (long range plan), nursing home, senior apartments, assisted living facility, medical retail, such as equipment and pharmacy sales, and a therapeutic riding program.
