The Providence vision has a deep rooted heritage in the Polson community starting with Father O'Maley who recruited sisters from the Religious Hospitallers of St. Joseph to come and start a hospital there. In 1984 they transferred sponsorship to the Presentation Health System, and in 1990 the Sisters of Providence assumed responsibility, and St. Joseph Hospital became an affiliate of St. Patrick Hospital.
